Joe Paterno died Sunday of lung cancer at age 85. -
Clutch free-throw shooting lifts Eagles
Somerset scored 22 points in the second quarter and built a 15-point halftime advantage over Central Cambria on Friday night.
Probably few people in the Central Cambria gym expected the Golden Eagles to need clutch free throw shooting in the closing seconds to hold off the surging Red Devils.
Somerset coach Scott Close knew better. -
Late goal sinks Rangers
It appeared that there were more players scratched than skating during Friday night’s Laurel Mountain Hockey League varsity game at Planet Ice in Richland Township.
The Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders and Forest Hills Rangers each battled through the game short on depth, but not on effort. Bishop Guilfoyle’s Joseph Dombrowski’s power- play goal with 1:16 remaining proved to be the difference as the Marauders edged Forest Hills 4-3. -

Exhibit, programs will showcase Slovak heritage
Community Arts Center of Cambria County will offer an expansive view of Slovak heritage during an exhibition that also features weekly programs. Working in conjunction with Slovak Heritage Association of the Laurel Highlands, an ongoing exhibit titled “The Legacy of SS. Cyril and Methodius” will be on display from Feb. 4-29 at the arts center, 1217 Menoher Blvd., Westmont.
