JOHNSTOWN —
Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Marhefka of Indian Lake have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a surprise dinner at the home of the their daughter, Robin, and husband, Brian.
Their son, Rob, and wife, Chris, drove the couple to Pittsburgh, where they met for dinner with their daughter, Renee, and husband, Scott, and their daughter, Robin, and husband, Brian.
The children also surprised their parents with a cruise to the Bahamas.
Mr. Marhefka and the former Patti Zapp were married May 5, 1962, at Assumption Roman Catholic Church, East Conemaugh, by the Rev. Walter Kurdziel.
Mr. Marhefka owned Marhefka Chevrolet.
He was a race car driver starting with coupes, modifieds, sprint cars with wings and late models. He won numerous races at Ebensburg; Johns-town; Windber, his home track; Jennerstown; Hagerstown, Md.; Latrobe Motordrome; Pittsburgh; Learnville and Port Royal speedways. His purple and white car was No. 85.
He is a member of the Indian Lake borough council.
Mrs. Marhefka was employed by Thorofare Markets. She helped to open five stores in the area.
The Marhefkas enjoy boating and tubing with their grandchildren and attending their activities.
They enjoyed trips with Chevy dealers to Australia, Germany, Brazil, France, Jamaica, Hawaii, Italy and many islands.
The Marhefkas are members of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Baltimore.
They are the parents of three children: Robin, and husband, Brian; Rob, and wife, Chris; and Renee, and husband, Scott.
There are six grandchildren: Zachary, Zane, Devan, Brandan, Taylor and Tanner.
