Thompsons note 70th date

JOHNSTOWN — Mr. and Mrs. James Thompson of Johnstown have noted their 70th wedding anniversary with a dinner for family and friends in Florida.

Mr. Thompson and the former Virginia A. Wissinger were married Jan. 13, 1943, at Roxbury Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Brumbaugh.

Mr. Thompson was born April 26, 1922, and Mrs. Thompson was born Sept. 1, 1924.

Mr. Thompson was a radar operator aboard USS Cabot during World War II.

He retired after 42 years’ service from Bethlehem Steel Corp.

The Thompsons are active members of Roxbury Church of the Brethren.

They are the parents of five children: Virginia Jacko, Port Monmouth, N.J.; James, and wife, Linda, Johnstown; Nancy Sabo, Johnstown; Patricia, wife of Donald Stammely, Johnstown; and Thomas, and wife, Linda, Imperial, Allegheny County.

There are 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
