JOHNSTOWN —
Mr. and Mrs. James Werner of the West End have observed their 65th wedding anniversary with a family celebration at The Parrot Bay Cafe.
Mr. Werner and the former Helen Marie Rodkey were married Oct. 26, 1946, at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Johnstown, by the Rev. Richard Mullane.
Mr. Werner is the son of the late Cletus and Adelaide Werner, formerly of New Baltimore, and has 14 siblings.
Mrs. Werner is the daughter of the late Henry and Sophie Rodkey and has one sister.
Mr. Werner served with the Army during World War II and was at the Battle of the Bulge.
He worked at the A&P Tea Co. and retired from Johnstown Bank & Trust Co.
He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans.
Mrs. Werner worked as a salesperson for Dutchmaid Clothing.
She was a member of the Ladies Guild of Mercy Hospital.
The Werners were members of St. Columba Roman Catholic Church for 63 years, until it closed. They are current members of St. John Gualbert Cathedral. He was president of the Men’s Club and she was president of the Ladies Club.
They are volunteers at Greater Johnstown Convention and Visitors Bureau and have assisted every year at Thunder in the Valley.
The Werners are the parents of seven children: Brenda, wife of Chuck Polacek, Johnstown; Jim, and friend, Wendy Dolges, Johnstown; Jeff, married to the former Nancy McCreery, Johns-town; Rhonda, wife of Chip Grasso, Johnstown; Melia, and friend, Ken Settle, Johnstown; and Brian, married to the former Sharon Zahul, Dearborn, Mich. A son, Jerry, is deceased.
There are 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A grandchild is deceased.
