Sperrys mark 60th date

JOHNSTOWN — Mr. and Mrs. Rhuel Sperry of Niceville, Fla., formerly of Patton, have marked their 60th wedding anniversary with a trip  to Bryan, Texas, where they were married, followed by a large family gathering in Florida at their home.

Mr. Sperry and the former Audrey Leaper were married Sept. 30, 1952, at Bryan Air Force Base Chapel by Chaplain John Harper, first lieutenant.

Mr. Sperry is the son of David G. and Celia E. (Roberts) Sperry.

Mrs. Sperry is the daughter of Jacob R. Sr. and Sarah (Forsyth) Leaper.

The Sperrys met in the third grade and graduated from Patton High School in 1949.

Mr. Sperry retired after 26 years’ service in the Air Force as a master sergeant.

He enolled in the local college, taking welding classes  and also worked as a police dispatcher in Niceville and Metric Systems in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

The past several years, Mr. Sperry worked for Hertz.

Mrs. Sperry worked at the local shirt factory.

In September 1952, Mrs. Sperry traveled for three days to Bryan, Texas, where they were married.

She enjoys her home, yard and gardening.

The Sperrys enjoy traveling and spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

They are the parents of five children: Debbie, wife of Cliff Kelley, Pineville, La.; Jeff, Niceville, Fla.; twins, Kevin, Springfield, La.; and Karen, wife of Bill Holloway, Mossy Head, Fla.; and Jay, Freeport, Fla.

There are 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
