WINDBER — A bird’s nest is being blamed for causing a small fire at Rizzo’s Restaurant, 2200 Graham Ave., around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Aaron Cicon, Windber assistant fire chief, said the nest was built around an exterior light that is recessed into the soffit and shines on a parking lot.
Heat from the light ignited the nest, he said. The resulting smoke entered the restaurant and activated smoke alarms.
The only damage was to some soffit that was charred and to the light fixture, Cicon said.
The only people inside the restaurant were employees preparing for the dinner crowd, he said. The restaurant opened as usual.
Also responding were volunteers from Richland and Scalp Level-Paint.
