EBENSBURG —
A 24-year-old Cresson Township man was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in state prison this morning for the shooting death of his mother in a violent act that he still can’t explain.
Andrew Choros was sentenced by Judge Patrick Kiniry on a guilty plea to third-degree murder in the Oct. 24, 2010, slaying of 50-year-old Sharon Choros at the family’s home.
The shooting took place after the mother had returned home from the Penn Cambria School District, where she was the school nurse.
The defendant, after a day of drinking, had gone on a shooting rampage, firing weapons into furniture, the floor and walls of the house. He told police tha the contemplated suicide and had even placed the barrel of a gun into his mouth.
