Argentine wine to be bottled here

EBENSBURG — A new business expects to be bottling Argentine wine in Richland Township within a few months under a letter of intent obtained by a local delegation to the South American wine region this month.

General Manager Liz Diesel said E & M Bottling, will initially set up its bottling operation in a Vo-Tech Drive facility that is already inspected for food and beverage production.

Diesel was part of the 15-member delegation led by Cambria County Commissioner Doug Lengenfelder. The group spent five days in Argentina this month making contacts for business opportunities enhanced by a proposed Foreign Trade Zone centered at John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport.

Lengenfelder reported on the trip during a press  conference before the commissioners’ meeting today, calling it a “resounding success.”

The letter of intent from CEO of Tapiz and Zolo vineyards was an unexpected bonus, he added.

“We could not have asked for anything stronger coming from the Argentines,” Lengenfelder said.

The process of developing a Foreign Trade Zone is moving so fast, Lengenfelder said, commissioners have decided to create a new economic development authority to oversee the process. Currently, the airport authority is handling oversight.
