Small addition allowed at Richland Town Centre

Five Below, which offers iPhone gadgets, games and other items, plans to open a location at the Richland Town Centre this fall.

Last week’s approval gives the group the go-ahead to seek a building permit to add 1,200 square feet to the rear of the former Fashion Bug space for storage and office space, plans show.

Valley Dairy ice cream carton to sport a new look

Valley Dairy Restaurants will have a new look to its ice cream carton.

The design transpired through an agreement with the company’s partner in the manufacturing of its ice cream.

Velvet Ice Cream of Utica, Ohio, has been making Valley Dairy’s ice cream for the past several years and packaging it in Valley Dairy restaurant cartons.

It was determined that a cost savings will result in teaming with Velvet by sharing the container and using Valley Dairy’s lid to identify the product.

Valley Dairy ice cream is available only at the restaurant locations in a nine-county area of western Pennsylvania.

  • Stephanie Stohon Five steps to ward off business fraud

Business fraud is everywhere. It can range from employees pilfering small items from the office to embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars. And crimes may be committed by anyone from the lowest-paid clerk to a longtime officer. All too often, business owners are oblivious to wrongdoings, or they simply refuse to acknowledge the possibilities – until it’s too late.

In April 2010, General Motors Chairman Ed Whitacre announced that GM would pay back $8.1 billion in government loans. It was greeted by cheers from employees and no doubt from U.S. treasury officers as well. Of course, much of the $52 billion loaned to General Motors by the federal government – and the $1.4 billion loaned to General Motors by the Canadian government – has been converted to stock, which you and I as taxpayers own. This may be a good investment, for it appears that General Motors has learned its lesson.
