Sheetz to open ‘Shwellness’ center in Blair Co.

JOHNSTOWN — Sheetz will hold a grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new employee health and wellness center today.

The Sheetz Center for Shwellness is located beside the Sheetz Distribution Center in Claysburg. It is the first certified green building in Blair County.

Sheetz, along with its partner Marathon Health, will use medical staff to provide individual health and wellness coaching to employees and their eligible dependents. The center is intended to help employees improve their overall health by creating awareness of their own health conditions, while allowing them to better manage their medical care costs. All services are offered to eligible employees and dependents free of charge.

“Sheetz has been voted by our employees as among the best places to work for more than a decade because we do everything we can to acknowledge their value and keep them happy in their jobs,” Stan Sheetz, president and CEO of Sheetz Inc., said.

Sheetz designed the center to be more than an exercise facility. In addition to the state-of-the-art fitness center that includes a full line of cardio and strength equipment, a quarter-mile outdoor track and a group exercise room, employees also will have the option of participating in healthy living, disease management and lifestyle classes in the learning center. Several different types of health screenings also will be available at the center, in addition to treatment for acute care and chronic conditions.

“The Sheetz Center for Shwellness will be the hub for all future wellness initiatives, bringing convenient health resources to local employees, as well as using technology to bring similar wellness resources to employees outside the immediate area,” Travis Eckels, of Marathon Health, said. “Our clinical staff is committed to helping people improve their lives through health education, motivation and individual coaching. Our onsite team of health care practitioners establishes meaningful relationships with employees and is available to them exclusively as they work together to  reach their personal goals.”

The 11,000-square-foot building meets the criteria of the Leadership of Energy and Environmental Design for a sustainable green model.
