Business people: AmeriServ branch managers relocate

The Tribune-Democrat

— Mary Beth Page is now the branch manager at the Northern Cambria office, while Randy McLaughlin has moved to the University Heights office as branch manager.  

Both have been branch managers at AmeriServ for more than three years.

McLaughlin is originally from the Richland Township area, so it is a homecoming for him to be working at the Eisenhower Boulevard office.

Page lives in East Taylor Township and is looking forward to meeting new customers and businesses in the Northern Cambria area.

The AmeriServ Northern Cambria office at 4206 Crawford Ave. is being remodeled to better serve customers.

Local jewelers go on diamond-buying trip

Dan and Fran Decker, owners of Decker Diamond Jewelers in Ebensburg, recently returned from a trip to Antwerp, Belgium, to purchase diamonds directly from the manufacturers.  

Dan Decker said 85 percent of the world’s diamond production travels through Antwerp, where the precious stones are sorted and sent to diamond cutters around the world. He said they selected diamonds that will be in the store’s showcases in time for Christmas.

Decker said, Izzy Ilkowitz, a well-known diamond cutter, soon will be visiting the store.

    In April 2010, General Motors Chairman Ed Whitacre announced that GM would pay back $8.1 billion in government loans. It was greeted by cheers from employees and no doubt from U.S. treasury officers as well. Of course, much of the $52 billion loaned to General Motors by the federal government – and the $1.4 billion loaned to General Motors by the Canadian government – has been converted to stock, which you and I as taxpayers own. This may be a good investment, for it appears that General Motors has learned its lesson.
