Business people: IUP appoints associate VP

— Evan Bohnen has been appointed associate vice president for development in the University Advancement Division at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

He is responsible for direct supervision of the university’s fundraising and development operations.

He comes to IUP from Marietta College in Ohio, where he served as assistant vice president for advancement for five years.

Bohnen received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin.

Vinco woman earns adviser post

Sherry Walther of Vinco has been named as the individual and senior health adviser at First Commonwealth Insurance Agency, a division of First Commonwealth Financial Corp.

Walther will lead the agency’s efforts in the evaluation and coordination of clients’ health insurance coverage needs and Medicare options.

She has been with First Commonwealth Insurance Agency for five years and was a relationship manager for the company’s benefits consulting group.

Walther has more than 24 years of experience in customer care and is a registered employee benefits consultant, a registered health underwriter and a chartered health care consultant.

She earned a certification in senior health care products and health care reform studies.

Walther is a graduate of Pensacola Christian College and Central Ohio Technical School with an emphasis in health care.

She is married to the Rev. Drew Walther.

Loan officer hired, exec lauded

Les Brilhart has joined Somerset Trust Co. as commercial loan officer at the bank’s main office in Somerset, 151 W. Main St.

Brilhart comes to Somerset Trust from PNC Bank. His 30 years in banking also includes a management position at First United Federal in Indiana, Pa., which later was acquired by PNC Bank. His extensive background includes experience in business development, retail management and branch operations. He has worked in commercial lending for more than 20 years.

Brilhart earned a master’s in business administration at Colorado State University and received a degree in business and accounting at Pitt-Johnstown.  

Brilhart is treasurer and director of the Somerset County Economic Development Council. He is active with the Rotary Club of Somerset, where he is a past president and director. He is also a past board member of Laurel Arts Inc., Greater Johns­town/Cambria County Chamber of Commerce and the Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Commission Loan Committee.

John Centi, investment executive at Somerset Trust Co., has been recognized for outstanding performance.

He was named No. 1 in the region, which includes Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey, for top performance by Infinex Investments Inc.

Centi represents Infinex Financial Group located at STC Investment Services.  

In 2008, he earned the professional designation of Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow. He has been active in the profession for 18 years.  

Centi is a member of the Rotary Club of Somerset, serving as president, executive board member and Paul Harris fellow. He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Somerset, the Somerset County Conservancy, Somerset Sportsman’s Rifle and Pistol Association, Ducks Unlimited, National Skeet Shooting Association and the National Rifle Association.

Century 21 recognized for sales

Century 21 Real Estate LLC recently received the Century 21 Gold Medallion Award for sales production. In honor of this accomplishment, the Century 21 System will present Century 21 All Service Inc., Johnstown, with a customized trophy during a regional awards ceremony.

Of course, much of the $52 billion loaned to General Motors by the federal government – and the $1.4 billion loaned to General Motors by the Canadian government – has been converted to stock, which you and I as taxpayers own. This may be a good investment, for it appears that General Motors has learned its lesson.
