— AmeriServ Financial has promoted Terri L. Single of Johnstown to assistant vice president/corporate marketing supervisor.

Single has 17 years of marketing experience at AmeriServ. In her new position, she is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the corporate marketing department and overseeing the in-house print shop. Her office is at the downtown Franklin Street headquarters.

She earned an associate degree in bank management from Penn Highlands Community College in 1997.

She is a member of the Band of Brothers Shakespeare Company Board of Directors and recently joined the advisory committee for the graphic design program at the Greater Johnstown Technology and Career Center.

She also is a lead singer for the local band Ribbon Grass.

Bank fills specialty real estate trust post

AmeriServ Financial has named Christopher Sheedy of Rector senior vice president/director specialty real estate trust for Ameri­Serv Trust and Financial Services Co.

As a commercial real estate finance professional for 25 years, Sheedy most recently was a commercial relationship manager for Ameri­Serv.

Prior to that, he was employed by CBRE, a commercial real estate services firm, in Pittsburgh.

Sheedy will be responsible for overseeing current and future specialty real estate trust funds managed by AmeriServ Trust and Financial Services Co. His office is at 216 Franklin St., Johnstown.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Notre Dame. He is a volunteer at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History’s Powdermill Nature Reserve, located just outside of Ligonier.

Insurance executive earns designation

Glenn Miller, president and owner of VCS Group Inc. and its affiliate, Your Health Insurance Shop, is one of the first insurance executives in the nation to earn the Chartered Healthcare Consultant professional designation from the American College of Financial Services in Bryn Mawr, Montgomery County.

To achieve the designation, Miller completed six courses and 12 hours of proctored examinations. The credential prepares insurance and benefit specialists for the latest changes in health-care reform.

 Founded by Miller in 1995, VCS Group Inc. has a staff of 13 and provides individual and group health insurance, employee benefit administration, and commercial property and casualty insurance products.

In August 2012, Miller opened Your Health Insurance Shop, a retail insurance store in Somerset designed to help customers compare and shop for insurance products.

Johnstown man named EEO officer

FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III has named Kevin M. Walker of Johnstown an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) officer.

Walker will oversee the discrimination complaint process, the DOJ Mediator Corps, the reasonable accommodation process and the sign language interpreter program. Walker most recently served as the acting deputy director and general counsel of the National Drug Intelligence Center.

From 2006 to 2007, Walker served as the chief prosecutor for U.S. forces in the Iraqi theater of operations, supervising 26 trial teams trying hundreds of courts-martial. In 2008, Walker was chosen by the Judge Advocate’s Association as the “outstanding career armed services attorney” for the Army Reserve components.

From 2004 to 2006, Walker was employed at the Department of Homeland Security, where he served as deputy chief of the Commercial and Administrative Law Division, Office of the Chief Counsel, U.S. Citizenship and Immigrations Services. He led a 13-attorney practice group that provided legal support in employment, procurement, information and privacy issues, security, torts and general administrative law. He also served as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Board for the Correction of Military Records, a quasi-judicial board empowered to correct the personnel records of current and former Coast Guard members.

Before joining the Department of Homeland Security, Walker served as a regular Army officer, with a number of assignments including professor in the contract and fiscal law department, and later, associate dean for the Judge Advocate School; chief of military justice, and later, chief of administrative and contract law for the U.S. Army Special Operations Command; criminal defense counsel for the U.S. Army Trial Defense Service; chief of International and Operational Law for the 101st Airborne Division; and special assistant U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee and Western District of Kentucky.

Prior to his legal career, he served as an Army infantry officer and also as a corporate environmental compliance officer with a major U.S. manufacturer. He continues as a colonel in Army Reserve Judge Advocate General’s Corps, commanding the 9th Legal Operations Detachment headquartered in Columbus, Ohio.

Walker received a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University, a Juris Doctor from Albany Law School, a master of laws concentrating in government procurement and fiscal law from the Army Judge Advocate General’s School, and a master’s in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College.

He is admitted to practice law in New York, Connecticut and before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Physical therapy office hires clinical director

Kristen (Petrunak) Pasierb of Portage has joined Allegheny Chesapeake Physical Therapy as clinical director of the Portage office, 711 Caldwell Ave.

Pasierb earned a doctorate in physical therapy from Slippery Rock University and a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Penn State.

In her practice, she frequently uses Kinesio Taping, a therapeutic taping method that enhances the function of different tissues and physiologic systems. The modality can be used for joint pain, swelling, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis and many other symptoms.

Two recognized at Pitt-Johnstown

Two members of the staff at Pitt-Johnstown, Karen Barrick and Todd Shaffer, have been recognized for outstanding service by campus President Jem Spectar.

Barrick, office manager for Housing and Residence Life, received the President’s Staff Award for excellence in service to the community. A member of the staff for seven years, Barrick was recognized for her involvement in the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania, American Red Cross, and Windber middle and high school color guards.

She volunteered for more than 15 years as a Girl Scout troop leader and has recently transitioned into a volunteer role with the Girl Scouts’ Camp Conshatawba program team, where she serves as a service unit manager.

She is a first aid and CPR instructor with the American Red Cross.

Shaffer, associate director of Housing and Residence Life, received the President’s Staff Award for excellence in service to Pitt-Johnstown.

An eight-year employee, Shaffer was recognized for improving service to students while maximizing efficiency by establishing and nurturing positive working relationships with other departments.
