Heights out to build on last season’s success
While second-year coach Jarrod Lewis appreciates the preseason accolades that his Cambria Heights squad have received, he still thinks his Highlanders have to prove themselves on the field.
“I don’t buy much into preseason stuff because it’s based on last year and this team is a completely different one than last year,” said Lewis, whose team had more wins in 2011 than it had the previous six seasons combined. “I continue to maintain that we are still looking up to quite a few teams. We lost five games last year, and four of those teams are back on our schedule and all four of them – Forest Hills, Richland, Penn Cambria and Bishop McCort – are all tough opponents." -
Forest Hills girls take second straight District 6 title
Area girls were once again a dominant force at the District 6 Class AA Track and Field Championships.
Leading the assault on Tuesday at Mansion Park was Richland senior Paige Lumley, who won three events – two in meet records – along with the Forest Hills girls, who captured their second straight team title. -
9 area individuals advance from District 6 boys' meet
Stefan Moreau has had his ups and downs in the throwing events at times this season.
But on Tuesday at Mansion Park, the United senior was hitting on all cylinders, sweeping the throwing events all in state qualifying standards at the District 6 Class AA Track and Field Championships. -
WestPAC title games washed out; one playoff game still on tap

Richland outruns Bedford for title
The Richland boys’ track and field team was disappointed that it didn’t win the regular season Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference title outright, tying with Bedford and Central Cambria on top of the standings.

Forest Hills girls crown undefeated season
The Forest Hills girls’ track and field team finished unbeaten during the regular season, winning the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference crown.
The Rangers added the LHAC Championship Meet to their list of achievements, topping the field on Wednesday at Somerset High School. -
LHAC track meet postponed
The Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference track and field meet scheduled for this afternoon at Somerset has been postponed.

Area diamonds will be full of weekend tournaments
This might be the weekend to take yourself out to a ball game with a number of high school baseball tournaments and one softball tourney on the local schedule.
