CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Cyclones scored three second-period goals to break open a tie game and steamroll over the visiting Johnstown Chiefs 7-1 on Thursday night.
The North Division-leading Cyclones notched their 40th victory of the season against the league-worst Chiefs, who are playing out the string before the team moves to Greenville, S.C., next season.
Cincinnati outshot the Chiefs 20-2 in the decisive second period.
Somerset Area High School graduate Cullen Eddy signed with the Cyclones as a defenseman on Thursday and finished with a plus-2 rating and one shot on goal against Chiefs netminder John Murray.
The Cyclones’ Jimmy Kilpatrick made it 1-0 2:20 into the game, but Johnstown’s Connor Shields netted a short-handed goal to tie the game at 9:45.
After that, it was all Cincinnati.
Kilpatrick and Dustin Sproat each had two goals.
Scott Reynolds, former Chief Ryan Del Monte and Doug Krantz also scored.
Jeremy Smith made 18 saves for the win as Cincinnati outshot Johnstown 41-19.
Murray made 34 saves.
The Chiefs were 0-for-8 on the power play, while the Cyclones converted twice in eight chances.
The Chiefs are idle tonight and return to action on Saturday at Reading.
