Chiefs acquire forward

The Johnstown Chiefs made their second trade in as many days on Tuesday.

The Chiefs acquired forward Jordan Morrison from the Toledo Walleye for defenseman Chris Zarb. Morrison is expected to be in the lineup for the Chiefs’ game at Kalamazoo on Friday.

The Pittsburgh Penguins had drafted Morrison in the seventh round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Through 45 games with the ECHL’s Florida Everblades this season, Morrison had seven goals, 20 points, 39 penalty minutes and a minus-13 rating.

The Everblades had traded Morrison to Toledo for Dominic Osman on Tuesday, and then the Chiefs and Walleye completed the three-team transaction.

Morrison burst onto the ECHL scene in the 2008-09 season with the Wheeling Nailers. He finished second on the club with 74 points, including 26 goals, which were good for eighth in the league overall and second among rookies. Morrison finished second in rookie of the year balloting to teammate Bryan Ewing.

Morrison was on the ECHL All-Rookie Team last year.

In 16 playoff games, he has five goals and 10 points.

Prior to turning pro, Morrison spent four OHL seasons with Peterborough, where he was a teammate of Chiefs defenseman Trevor Hendrikx, and two seasons at Dalhousie University (AUS). Morrison had 101 goals and 261 points as an amateur.

The Chiefs originally acquired Zarb from Gwinnett in exchange for future considerations on Nov. 12. He had eight goals and 24 points in 36 games with Johnstown and ranks 10th among ECHL defensemen with 27 points overall.

On Monday, Johnstown acquired forward Matthew Kang from Las Vegas for future considerations. Kang had three assists and a plus-2 rating in Tuesday’s 4-3 shootout win at Wheeling.
