St. Francis falls at Kent State

KENT, Ohio — A slow start on offense and an uncharacteristically sloppy night on both ends of the floor sent St. Francis to a 77-48 setback at Kent State on Thursday night.

The Red Flash committed 18 turnovers in the contest, which the Mid-American Conference Golden Flashes converted into 29 points.

Entering the contest, St. Francis ranked among the national leaders in taking care of the ball – its 13 turnovers per game marked the 24th lowest average in NCAA Division I.

Red Flash assistant coach Eric Taylor did not travel with the team. He has been suspended for two games for his conduct during a loss to Bucknell on Monday.

Kent State was led by Chris Evans, who tossed in 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Kris Brewer was the Golden Flashes’ only other double-digit scorer with 13.

Earl Brown paced St. Francis with a season-high 15 points. Umar Shannon chipped in 12 points and Ronnie Drinnon led the Flash with seven boards.

Defendants in Penn State scandal lose another appeal
Two former Penn State administrators lost a second state appeals court ruling in less than two weeks Tuesday, when Superior Court threw out their request to review whether a grand jury judge had authority to dismiss charges against them.
The appeals court agreed with prosecutors, who argued the Supreme Court alone can consider matters regarding a grand jury investigation. The high court earlier this month, in a parallel matter, also ruled against retired vice president Gary Schultz and former athletic director Tim Curley.
