No. 5 Irish blow out Red Flash

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Markisha Wright scored 20 points for No. 5 Notre Dame in a 128-55 romp past St. Francis on Monday.

Notre Dame (10-1) dominated on both ends of the floor, forcing 33 turnovers and turning those into 49 points. The Irish led 63-25 at the break, their largest halftime lead of the season and set a school record for points in a game.

Alexa Hayward led the Red Flash (5-6) with 13 points.

“Today was a learning experience,” SFU coach Joe Haigh said. “I told the team at halftime that we will find out who wants to play.

Natalie Achonwa and Kayla McBride made easy shots from the low post for Notre Dame, many off give-and-gos from point guard Skylar Diggins.

Notre Dame coach Muffet McGraw had her reserves, including Wright, in the game with 13 minutes to play in the first half.

Defendants in Penn State scandal lose another appeal
Two former Penn State administrators lost a second state appeals court ruling in less than two weeks Tuesday, when Superior Court threw out their request to review whether a grand jury judge had authority to dismiss charges against them.
The appeals court agreed with prosecutors, who argued the Supreme Court alone can consider matters regarding a grand jury investigation. The high court earlier this month, in a parallel matter, also ruled against retired vice president Gary Schultz and former athletic director Tim Curley.
