Flash hope for repeat of last year

LORETTO — Last year’s game against Morehead State was one to remember for the St. Francis University football team.

After trailing by as many as 21 points, the Red Flash scored 19 points in the fourth quarter and rallied for a 50-49 victory at DeGol Field. In the game, tailback Kyle Harbridge rushed for a school-record 346 yards and four touchdowns.

Harbridge is out for the season because of an injury, but the Red Flash (1-1) hope to duplicate last year’s results today at Morehead State (1-1) in a nonconference game.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Morehead State leads the all-time series, 5-2.

St. Francis, however, is coming off a 39-28 home victory over Bryant and, just as the Red Flash did last year against Morehead State, they ran all over the place. Khairi Dickson and John Kelly combined to rush for 286 yards in St. Francis’ first victory over Bryant, a Northeast Conference rival. The pair have 363 rushing yards combined on the season. The total ranks third among running back/quarterback combinations in Football Championship Subdivision behind Ezayi Youyoute and Dominique Swope of Georgia Southern and Azch Zaenner and Austin Sumner of South Dakota State.

Dickson ranks second in the NEC in rushing

Red Flash linebacker Bishop Neal is also off to an impressive start.

The Clairton High School product was the Sports Network’s National Player of the Week, the NEC Defensive Player of the Week and the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week following his performance against Bryant. Neal finished with 13 tackles, one tackle for loss, an interception, a pass deflection and a safety against Bryant. His 10.5 tackles per games ranks second in the NEC and 25th nationally.

Morehead State quarterback Zach Lewis has passed for 543 yards to a variety of receivers in the Eagles’ spread offense.
