Marquette overpowers St. Francis

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. — Shooting just 23.8 percent from the floor, the St. Francis women’s basketball team fell to the Marquette Golden Eagles, 78-38, in their season opener at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee.

St. Francis took an early 8-4 lead, but Marquette forged ahead midway through the first half and closed it with a 17-7 run to take a 34-19 edge at intermission.

Britney Hodges led St. Francis with eight points and four assists. Samantha Leach and Allison Daly had six points each, while Leach finished with five rebounds.

Lauren Thomas-Johnson led Marquette with 14 points.

SFU will return home to host Delaware on Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m., and admission is free for all veterans or active military members.
