JOHNSTOWN — Sheena Aden scored a game-high
21 points, including 12 in the first half, to help Pitt-Johnstown overcome a seven-point deficit in a 67-51 victory over Georgian Court in Saturday’s first round of the Lady Cat Classic.
A pair of free throws 9:20 into the game by Kaitlyn Rose gave Georgian Court an
18-11 lead. However, the Lady Cats (1-1) responded with a 24-9 run to close out the first half and take a 35-28 advantage into the locker room.
Kayla Loughner sank three 3-pointers during the run, while Aden chipped in
12 first-half points.
UPJ maintained the momentum to start the second half. The Lady Cats pushed the lead to 59-46 on Andrea Dalton’s 3-pointer with 8:01 to play. Georgian Court pulled to within nine with 6:35 to play, but never got any closer, as UPJ cruised to the 16-point win.
Aden led UPJ with seven rebounds, while Loughner was the only other Lady Cat to score in double figures, as she had 16 points.
Sara Trimarco collected nine points and three assists.
UPJ shot 48 percent (22-for-46) from the field while holding the Lions to just 31 percent shooting (15-for-49).
Shawna Wert led Georgian Court (1-1) with 17 points and seven rebounds. Dana Wert had nine points.
Lake Erie College built a 23-point first half lead and went on to a 75-64 victory over Slippery Rock University in the early game.
Lake Erie’s Jen Caiola led all scorers with 23 points, including six 3-pointers.
Alyssa Wagers added 12 points and
10 rebounds, while Renese Ames scored
11 points for the Storm (1-2). Nikki Presto netted 17 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to pace Slippery Rock
(0-3).
The tournament wraps up today at the Sports Center with Georgian Court taking on Slippery Rock at 1 p.m., followed by UPJ and Lake Erie at 3.
