JOHNSTOWN —
The 86th annual Jack Roddick Shippensburg University High School Track and Field Invitational was held on Saturday and several area participants had quality performances at the event.
In Class AA, Forest Hills senior Sam Deitle won the high jump competition with a leap of 5 feet while Bedford senior Carrie Baker was third in the pole vault (10-6) and sixth in the 800.
Bisons’ teammate Kaitlyn Lippencott was fifth in the triple jump and Bedford’s 400 relay and 1600 relay were both eighth.
The Bedford girls were 15th in the field of 26 teams.
In Class AAA, Somerset’s Jayna Coyle finished sixth in the long jump.
On the boys’ side in Class AA, Bedford’s Dylan Evans was third in the 400, finishing in 51.45 while Bisons’ teammate Josh Wakefield was fourth in the 300 hurdles.
Wakefield just missed qualifying for the finals in the
110 hurdles.
Bedford’s foursome of Wakefield, Dakota Hess, Evans and Steven Stroup were fifth in the 1600 relay and Haden Hess was sixth in the long jump.
Somerset’s J.R. Hemminger tied for sixth in the pole vault.
Bedford’s Tanner Williams was second in the 2000-meter steeplechase, which is an event that is not contended in May at the PIAA Championships.
The Bisons were 12th in the 28-team field.

Relay meets: The Heritage Conference held its Coed Relays Friday at United High School.
In the Heritage meet, both the boys and girls teams participate in the event.
Times and distances are then combined to determine the school’s finish.
Ligonier Valley won with
95 points followed by the host Lions (79), Saltsburg (78), Penns Manor (63), Northern Cambria (51), Homer-Center (49), Purchase Line (35) and Marion Center (15).
The WestPAC Relays are run a little differently with both the boys and girls capturing team trophies.
The WestPAC event is set for today at Portage High School.
The regular conference meet for the Heritage is set for
May 8 at United while the WestPAC Meet is scheduled for May 7 at Berlin Brothersvalley.

LHAC: The team titles in the Laurel Highlands Conference are up in the air for both the boys and the girls track and field teams.
In the boys’ standings, Central Cambria (6-0) sits on top with Westmont (5-0-1) right behind. Bedford and Richland are both 5-1 while Somerset is 3-2-1.
In the girls’ standings, defending champion Forest Hills is tied with Westmont Hilltop both at 6-0. Central Cambria is 5-1 while Bedford, Richland and Somerset are all 4-2.
The LHAC Championships will be May 8 at Somerset.
