School administrators and teachers are constantly being driven to keep our students interested and challenged.
That means changing the norms, adding courses and introducing new methods of instruction.
Count Johnstown’s Bishop McCort Catholic High School among those at the head of the class.
McCort has found its international-student program so successful that it has decided to expand it in an exciting way, one our region possibly has never experienced.
As reported by our Dave Sutor, the school is looking to operate a boarding house for young males from China and maybe other countries. It could happen as early as the 2013-14 academic year.
“We just think it’s an exciting opportunity to continue to expand the school and to improve student diversity and academic opportunities for not only foreign students but our students,” Principal Ken Salem said.
Currently, 18 students attend the school as part of the International Education Program, and reside with host families. But after receiving a zoning exemption for a large house within a few feet of the McCort campus, administrators there are moving ahead to offer up to 18 individuals the opportunity to live inside the home, in the 1000 block of McKinley Avenue.
With the inclusion of a boarding house, the number of participants in the international program could double.
Obviously, a lot of logistics will have to be addressed.
McCort long has been known for offering excellent academic programming while molding students for a successful future.
These indeed are exciting times for those teaching and learning at Bishop McCort.
