Readers' Forum 9-24 | In Critz, region’s hospitals have a friend

— Allegheny Valley Hospital, Heritage Valley Beaver, Heritage Valley Sewickley, Ellwood City Hospital, Memorial Medical Center, Somerset Hospital, UPMC Passavant and Windber Medical Center. These health care institutions have many things in common – all have long been the center of health care in their communities; all deliver safe, efficient and effective care; all are major employers in their respective communities; and, now, all are in the newly formed 12th Congressional District.

Throughout his public service career, Congressman Mark Critz has been a fierce advocate for protecting and preserving community hospitals. He understands the critical roles these organizations play in both medical care delivery and their economic importance to his district.

Collectively, health care is a major industry in this area, employing tens of thousands of people and generating hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue.

Critz has made significant health care contributions – nationally by furthering military medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and regionally by helping to establish several cutting-edge clinical and research programs.

Complex health care issues require the knowledge and efforts of an informed representative. Critz has the experience to represent the health care industry within the 12th Congressional District.

He has the necessary knowledge to influence changes in laws and regulations that will preserve this vital industry.

Romney/Congress a disaster waiting

Mitt Romney’s itching to attack Iran so his friends can make big money. Just ask Dick Cheney. The United States has lost “only” 5,500 soldiers and crippled 38,000.

Let’s start World War III.

I started to write down my thoughts before Romney’s statement about “not caring for 47 percent.” I concluded that Romney cares only about his rich donors.

Keeping with this thought, if elected, Romney will stop paying for Alzheimer’s care (by gutting Medicaid) and undo Romney/Obamacare.

Romney will stop helping the underemployed, unemployed, poor and middle class. To him, people down on their luck don’t deserve health care, even food.

He passed Romneycare, then ran from it when he wanted tea party support. Then he liked parts of it when he scared Medicare users.

He should make up his mind.

Romney wants more tax cuts for the rich 1 percent. It sounds like payola for his rich donors.

What morsels have been trickling down? He pays only 13 percent of his known earnings in taxes, while most of the middle class pay 20 percent.

The elderly, underemployed, unemployed, poor or disabled making up the 47 percent mean nothing to him. He should take a ride on his car elevator.

Romney and the do-nothing Congress would put the United States in the second Great Depression. If Americans think it was bad when G.W. Bush left office, just wait and see the ruin Romney would cause.

Romney’s specialty is making himself money and low-wage jobs for “those people.”
