Jan. 22-28 was National School Choice Week, and I am proud to say that I exercised my right to school choice.
I exercised my right for faith and educational reasons. I want my children to have an opportunity to grow in faith and to achieve and be challenged academically.
They get both at Johnstown Christian School (JCS).
JCS is one of the only local faith-based schools to be accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International, a national accreditation body, which requires schools to adhere to and maintain the highest academic standards.
In fact, JCS has earned the accreditation of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, which requires the highest standards for public schools.
When choosing JCS, you are choosing the best in faith-based and secular education.
I urge you, however you exercise your school choice, to get involved. Spend your money with businesses that support the earned income tax credit program. It means those businesses donate money for scholarships in exchange for state tax credits.
Support candidates for the state Legislature who would vote for vouchers and tax credits for families at private schools.
Attend events, such as the arts and crafts fair at JCS in May, and bid on beautiful quilts and other items. While there, you won’t want to miss sampling the apple dumplings or ham potpie.
And, finally, when the neighbor kid knocks on your door, fundraising flier in hand, you can buy some chocolates, wrapping paper or frozen cookie dough.

Article proves Goodman didn’t belong
Concerning the Ellen Goodman opinion column published Jan. 25, I would like to say, congratulations, Ellen, you just proved to all the students of St. Francis University and many other people from Loretto and surrounding areas that you definitely were not worthy of being a speaker at the university or any other Catholic college or university.
Thumbs up to St. Francis University.
Contraceptives are now being called “mercy medications.” I wonder if there is a warning label on these “mercy medications” saying, “This medication may cause the death of your child.”
A young lady tells of her friend giving her a “pill” (contraceptive) to try. Instead of taking the pill, she drops it into her fish tank. In a short while, the fish were dead.
Thanks, again, St. Francis University.

Give Obama time to finish what he started
The time is now, more than ever before.
We, the 99 percent – I refer to the poor, the working poor, the middle class, the elderly and, lest we forget, the minorities – must register and vote this year.
Talk to your neighbors and friends and remind them to vote. You do not have to be told whom to vote for.
The GOP candidates who are running for president are going to do everything in their power to take away every benefit that we ever gained through the Democrats.
Our president is trying his best to straighten out this mess, namely massive debt from two wars, that was left from the last GOP president.
Let’s all work to give him four more years to get the job done that he planned.

President’s visions will destroy nation
After seeing President Obama at the State of Union Address snubbing and turning his back on the governor of Arizona, his ego is bigger than our $15 trillion deficit.
He bows to a Saudi prince; writes letters to the president of Iran, pleading for the return of a U.S. drone; and has photo ops with dictators.
But he shows no respect toward his own country’s leaders.
The president has no solutions to fix our economy and create jobs since he never made a payroll for anyone.
He surrounds himself with advisers to whom he owes political favors, not their aptitude.
He was educated by his own mentors for 20 years, and in his own words “he respects” racist Jeremiah Wright, terrorist Bill Ayers, convicted felon Tony Rezko, Father Michael Pfleger, who was thrown out of the Catholic Church because of racial beliefs, and Saul Alinsky, a role model for being a community organizer and a Marxist.
Can we as country be so naive and brainless not to think that Obama doesn’t have a political agenda to re-landscape this country?
Forty-six percent of the country believe he’s emperor and can’t see his vision. The main concern of the Obamas is to fly around the world on Air Force One, compliments of the taxpayers.
