Lady Red Devils basking in gold

Our hats are off also to the Central Cambria High School’s girls cross country team.

The Lady Red Devils captured their third straight PIAA championship on Saturday at Hershey.

That’s awesome.

“The thing that most impressed me is the fact that they really used today to be great, Central Cambria Coach Randy Wilson said.

“We didn’t run great at our conference meet or at districts, but they put all that behind them and almost everyone ran their best race of the season today.”

With stiff competition statewide, that’s exactly what it takes to bring home a Pennsylvania championship.

Many high schools in our region have never won a team state crown. For a Central Cambria team to win three in a row is remarkable.

Perhaps Junior Ashley Stump said it best: “I never thought that coming into this as a freshman that we would get three. One was amazing, the second time was even better, but this is just unbelievable and I’m so proud of everyone.”

A lot of other area folks are also extremely proud of these gritty and talented competitors and their coaches.
