Regarding talk about selling the naming rights to the Cambria County War Memorial Arena:
It is my understanding that the facility has one room dedicated to the servicemen and women who have fought and died for our country. The arena should be sold and a new, dedicated county War Memorial should be built in the center of the county.
One good location could be at the crossroads of routes 219 and 422. A second possibility is near the Ebensburg airport at the junction of routes 22 and 219.
Decorate the exterior with decommissioned tanks, airplanes and artillery.
The War Memorial should be run by a board of directors consisting of members from every Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and other military-related organizations.
Volunteers could be organized for cleaning and maintenance. Pictures of young and old alike in the tank or airplane could be taken and sold.
The James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center in Altoona has photos of servicemen and women on their walls and uniforms displayed appropriately in cases.
How about a wall of fallen heroes of Cambria County, those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom?
Col. Oliver North could deliver the dedication speech. He knows Cambria County veterans have a story that deserves to be told.

AAABA game special for 7 manor residents
We would like to thank George Arcurio III, AAABA president, for making it possible for the special outing on Aug. 8.
Due to the efforts of Mr. Arcurio and the AAABA committee, we were able to take seven of our Arbutus Park Manor residents “out to the ballgame.”
The red carpet was rolled out and our residents were made to feel very special as they cheered on Altoona vs. Youngstown.
A Point Stadium grounds crew worker met our bus and showed us where to park to easily access our seats. We were right behind home plate, in perfect view of the whole field.
When it got sunny, big golf umbrellas were provided for shade.
Our residents enjoyed every minute of the game, clapping their hands to the music between innings and interacting with the players.
The game even included an inside-the- park home run.
Everyone at Arbutus Park Manor thanks all those involved for making our residents’ day.

Christians’ support of Dem Party questioned
I have often asked myself how a believing Christian could continue to support the national Democratic Party. My father used to say that in Cambria County, parents take their children to church when they are two weeks old and have them baptized Democrats.
Recently, I came across a quote by the servant of God Prince Demetrius Gallitzin from the 1820s: “...I do believe that if the evil one with damnation written across his forehead were to run on the Democratic ticket, some people would vote for him.”
It took 150 years for Catholics to prove that we can be good Americans. Now we are being forced to prove that we can be good Catholics.
How many will accept the challenge?

Driver in distress a draw for Samaritans
On July 30, while traveling on Ferndale Avenue, my car suddenly “died.” Absolutely nothing worked. Never having had such an experience, my first reaction was sheer panic, as I was blocking a lane of traffic.
Within a short period of time, a gentleman driving a black truck and one driving a red car stopped and offered their assistance. They pushed my disabled car to the right. The gentleman who drove the truck made a cellphone call to AAA and arranged for my car to be towed. The other gentleman, who was on his way to work, left before I got his name. I thank him for his kindness.
A Ferndale police officer came on the scene, asked what the problem was, directed traffic around my car and offered the air-conditioned cruiser where I could wait.
Shortly afterward, an Upper Yoder Township police officer came on the scene.
He, also, was kind, and after the tow truck picked up my car, he drove me home in his cruiser – a first for me!
Did I feel like a female in distress? You bet I did. However, thanks to the above gentlemen, I weathered it fine. Good Samaritans do abound.
Thanks also to my friend/neighbor, Judy, who stopped to make sure I was OK.

Our nation must stop compromising with evil
Editor’s note: We are republishing the following letter to correct a transcription error.
The devil never sleeps, and he has been accepted by most liberals to the point of trying to overthrow our Constitution by removing religion and moral values in all fazes of our lives.
It appears the Democrats, and some Republicans, have become demonized to the point of accepting gay marriage, abortion, unweds living together, free everything, greed, lies and drugs as our new lifestyle. We are being forced to accept unholy ways of life or be penalized by the government.
It is written that “you are either with Me or against Me. If you are in between, I will vomit you out.” This means that we cannot compromise with evil, as politicians are doing, or we will suffer God’s wrath.
Good is our only way to be in all things.
None of us are perfect and that is why we have religion to guide us. We must follow God’s laws.
Wake up. The devil promises everything only to take your mind and soul.
We are being sold a bill of goods, not a Bill of Rights.
It’s time that all of the religious leaders speak up and change this political thinking and doing, and to get the devil out of everything.
There is no excuse to let this demonic way of life to go any further. And those who do will have to pay for their silence.
Wake up, America, for the sake of our children, grandchildren and all others.
This land will always be “One nation under God ...” not just for special unholy interest groups.
