A Thanksgiving hymn sing, sponsored by New Day Inc., will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Oakland United Methodist Church, 1504 Bedford St., Johnstown.

Festival of song planned in Portage

A festival of song, witness talk and breakfast will be held from 8 to 9:30 Nov. 24 at Sacred Heart Center, 1872 Munster Road, Portage.

A Thanksgiving breakfast will begin at 7:30 Thursday at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 700 Park Ave., Johnstown.

Pleasant Hill Baptist

Family Day will be celebrated during the 10:50 a.m. Sunday worship service at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 205 Peelor St., Prospect.

The Rev. Clyde Williams Jr., associate minister at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, will speak. The Rev. Andrew W. Tilly of Philadelphia, former pastor, also will attend. Music will be provided by the mass choir.

Dinner will be served after the service.

There will be no Thanksgiving Day service.

Roxbury church

The Rev. Brian Simmons, pastor of Roxbury Church of the Brethren, 112 Sell St., Johnstown, will speak on “Keep Up Your Courage,” with Scripture from Acts 22:30 and 23:11, during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.

The cathedral choir will sing “O Bless the Lord, My Soul,” directed by Melanie Shiley, and accompanied by Laura Krouse, pianist.

Sunday school starts at 9:30.

Bible study will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Choir practice will follow at 7.

An adult fellowship breakfast will be held at 8:30 at Our Sons’ Family Restaurant, Broad Street in the Cambria City section of Johnstown.

Roxbury St. Paul’s

Summit Chapel UM

The Rev. John H. Weaver, pastor of Summit Chapel United Methodist Church, 2142 William Penn Ave., Johnstown, will preach on “We Are To Remember God Has Given Us the Strength to Deal With All That Comes To Us,” based on 1 Thessalonians 5:12-16, during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service.

Sunday school will begin at 10:30 for youth and adults.

An ecumenical community Thanksgiving worship service, sponsored by Conemaugh Valley Ministerium, will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday.

The Rev. Kevin McNamara, pastor of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, will be the guest preacher. Summit Chapel Chancel Choir, under the direction of Dale Wicks, and accompanied by Carol Gresh, will sing the anthem “A Canon of Thanks.”

The offering received will be given to the Nanty Glo Food Pantry.

Walnut Grove

The Rev. Ron Barto will deliver the message “Oh Give Thanks to the Lord,” with Scripture from Psalm 107, during the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service at Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, 1068 Bedford St., Johnstown.

Zion Lutheran

Church school will begin at  9, with fellowship at 9:30.

A midweek Liturgy of Holy Communion will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Memorial Chapel and a Liturgy of Holy Communion will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving Day with a Gospel reading from Matthew 6:25-33.
