— The Pitt-Johnstown Concert Choir will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, 450 Schoolhouse Road in Richland Township.

The performance is part of the university’s annual spring concert.

The concert also will feature the Pitt-Johnstown Alumni Choir, which members are from the classes of 1976 to 2010.

The alumni choir will sing Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”

Both choirs will be under the direction of Jeffrey L. Webb, who is celebrating his 10th year as conductor of the Pitt-Johnstown choir.

The concert band, under the direction of Michael Bodolosky, will perform selections from “American River Songs,” “Footlifters March” and “Phantom of the Opera.”

The concert is free and open to the public.

Patrons will be asked to make donations to the Cambria County Humane Society.

Conemaugh Twp. PTO sets Reading Night

The Conemaugh Township Parent-Teacher Organization will sponsor its annual Reading Night from 5 to 8 Tuesday at the Conemaugh Township Area Intermediate School, 1516 Tire Hill Road, Johnstown.

Profits earned from a scholastic book fair will be used to purchase books for elementary school pupils.

Classrooms will be used for read-alouds, crafts, plays, games and related activities surrounding a “Book Fair Diner” theme, said Chrissy Troxell, PTA chairwoman for Reading Night.

Reading Night is free and is open to pupils, their families and friends, she said.

Band in concert April 15 at St. Francis

The four-member band Motion City Soundtrack will perform a concert at 8 p.m. April 15 at the Stokes Athletic Center on the campus of St. Francis University, Loretto.

Doors open at 7.

A Great Big Pile of Leaves will be the opening act.

Motion City Soundtrack is touring in support of its latest album, “My Dinosaur Life” for Columbia Records.

The concert is open to the public.

The Minneapolis-based band was formed in 1997 and has toured with Fall Out Boy, Metro Station, Mae and Panic at the Disco. It also has performed at three consecutive Warped Tours.

Pupils will present ‘Aristocats Kids’

Pupils from Cathedral Catholic Academy will present “Aristocats Kids” at 7 p.m.

April 29 and at 2 p.m. April 30 at the Guzzi Performing Arts Center, Bishop McCort High School, 25 Osborne St. in the 8th Ward section of Johnstown.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free for children ages 5 and younger.

Bishop Carroll sets annual Carrollian Gala

Bishop Carroll Catholic High School will conduct  its fourth annual Carrollian Gala on April 30 at the school, 728 Ben Franklin Highway, Ebensburg.

The gala begins with a cocktail hour at 5:30, followed by dinner at 6:30.

Following dinner, Cornerstone Awards, which are presented to individuals in recognition of their services to Bishop Carroll, will be given to Fred McCabe of Loretto, Ann Golden of Summerhill and Blair Pawlowski of Ebensburg, and his late wife, Ursula.

Dance music will provided by Boomers.

Silent and live auctions will be held throughout the evening.

Items include a full set of dental braces, Notre Dame football tickets, Vera Bradley products and jewelry.

Basket party to aid cancer patient

A benefit basket party will be held for 2-month-old Bentley Lauf, son of Ryan Lauf and Whitney Sheehan of Ferndale.

The infant has been diagnosed with infantile fibrosarcoma, a rare cancer of the bones and/or soft tissue which surrounds his bones.

The Hope for Bentley Basket Party will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. May 21 in the community room at Planet Ice, Richland Township.

Cost of the event is $15 for 25 tickets and will include food and prizes. Additional tickets may be purchased at the door.

More than 100 baskets are expected to be given way.

Following surgery, Bentley began chemotherapy treatments on March 24 in Pittsburgh and will continue to receive these treatments every three weeks.

Proceeds from this event will go to the Hope for Bentley fund to offset medical bills and travel costs.

Lunch fundraisers slated at playhouse

Cresson Lake Playhouse will host two lunch fundraisers with the cast of “Alice in Wonderland.”

The events will be held at 2:15 p.m. May 7 and 14  at the playhouse, 279 Shapiro Road, Loretto.

Cost is $25 per guest and includes admission to the show, lunch, T-shirt, autograph with the cast and a behind-the-scene tour of the playhouse.

Seating is limited and reservations are required. No one will be admitted without a reservation.

United Way will host annual wine auction

The United Way of the Laurel Highlands will hold its third annual live wine auction at 6:30 p.m. May 13 at Harrigan’s Cafe & Wine Deck at the Holiday Inn, 250 Market St. in downtown Johnstown.

The event will feature matchless wines and tapas to compliment selections from around the world with bid estimates ranging from $200 to $1,000.

Music will be provided by Frank Filia of Johnstown.

In addition, there will be separate wine tastings and opportunities to bid on other items, including vacation getaways.

Proceeds from the auction will be used to support community needs through programs and services supported by the United Way and the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies.
