The holidays are approaching and the Garden Club of Johnstown will celebrate with its annual fundraiser.
The 19th annual “Welcome the Holidays” will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 14 at Sunnehanna Country Club, 1000 Sunnehanna Drive, Westmont.
The fundraiser will start with a boutique featuring handmade items by garden club members.
“We have some good designers in the club,” said Shirley Gardill of Westmont, who is co-chairwoman of the event along with Eileen Mider and Lisa Kuchera, both of Richland Township.
“They’ve been working on it for four or five weeks,” Gardill said.
The boutique will feature decorations for Thanksgiving and Christmas as well as items that can be used year-round.
A luncheon at noon will feature sweet potato crusted chicken on rice pilaf, harvest salad and a brownie sundae.
After the meal, there will be a fashion show featuring four club members as models.
Karen’s Couture, 9 Entrance Drive, Lower Yoder Township, will provide the fashions.
“We’ll have some holiday fashions, both casual and dressy,” Gardill said.
At the end of the annual fundraiser, garden club member Diane Herman will present “Holiday Designs You Can Do.”
Herman is a master judge and past president of the National Flower Arrangers.
“We’ve talked to floral shops, and they’re getting away from Christmas arrangements,” Gardill said.
“We’re going to have items that can be used all winter into the spring.”
Herman will give a demonstration on how to produce the various arrangements.
Gardill said tickets will be sold at the door if there are any available.
“We sell them through members,” Gardill said.
“We always have this the second Saturday in November, and people who have been here before call us.”
Tickets are $30, and reservations can be made by calling 262-0041.
Proceeds will be used for the garden club’s many civic beautification projects throughout the Greater Johnstown area.
