IN BRIEF | Run/walk benefits are food pantries


A Turkey Trot to benefit local food pantries and the Family Kitchen sponsored by Kaufman Mennonite Church, Davidsville, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 14 at Conemaugh Township Area High School, 300 W. Campus Ave., Davidsville.

Participants can choose to walk a one-mile course or run a 5K race.

Participants who register by Nov. 10 will receive a long sleeve T-shirt.

Registration forms are available under the bulletin tab at www.kaufmanmennonite.org.

Forms can be mailed to the church at 916 Miller Picking Road, Davidsville, Pa. 15928, dropped off at the church office or faxed to 479-5121.

The cost to participate is $15 and one nonperishable food item.

Children ages 10 and younger will be admitted free with an adult registration.

Participants will receive one ticket for each food item donated, and the winning ticket-holder will receive a live turkey.

Registration the day of the race will cost $20.

Registration will be held from 9 to 9:15 a.m.

Christian athletes sponsor run/walk

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will hold a 5K run/walk at the Pitt-Johnstown cross-country trail and track at 9 a.m. Nov. 14.

The cost is $10 per student and $15 for adults.

The first 200 participants will receive a T-shirt.

Native American fest scheduled for IUP

Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Native American Awareness Council and the Office of Social Equity and Civic Engagement are sponsoring the third annual Native American Festival.

The free event will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Hadley Union Building.

The featured attraction is the Allegany River Indian Dancers, who will perform at 1 and 3 p.m. The Drums of Native Sisters also will perform during the festival.
