Doors tribute band swinging into Arcadia

Peace Frog, The Doors Tribute will bring the music of Jim Morrison to the area at 8 p.m. Feb. 25 at Arcadia Theater, 1418 Graham Ave., Windber.

“This is the most highly acclaimed act to give tribute to Jim Morrison,” said Frank Cunsolo, Arcadia president and programming director. “They’re America’s most popular Doors tribute, and we’re proud to have them.

“When the board saw the DVD, we thought, ‘We must bring this show in for the younger adults.’ ”

The band will give its own renditions of Doors classics such as “Hello, I Love You,” “Light My Fire,” “L.A. Woman” and “Riders on the Storm.”

Based in Venice, Calif., lead singer Tony Fernandez lives out every move of Morrison on stage and delivers a powerful re-creation of his likeness in his presence, vocals, mannerism and spirit.

Even the musicians who play the parts of Doors band members Robby Krieger, Ray Manzarek and John Densmore give meticulous attention to detail.

Peace Frog demonstrates the drama and rock theater that made The Doors famous, going from dark and spooky to mystical and hypnotic.

“The crowd will be entranced by their attention to detail,” Cunsolo said. “This is a must-see for all Doors fans.

“Our patrons will love this show.

“Ticket sales have been good,” Cunsolo added.

Peace Frog is celebrating its 14th anniversary of paying tribute to Morrison and The Doors by re-creating the magic and intensity of a Doors concert experience.

The tribute band’s name comes from the title of a Doors song from the album “Morrison Hotel,” released in 1970.

The line “Blood in the streets in the town of New Haven” more than likely refers to Morrison’s Dec. 9, 1967, arrest at the New Haven Arena in New Haven, Conn., during a concert.

After an altercation with a police officer backstage, Morrison made the incident known to the concert audience and was arrested for attempting to incite a riot.

A similar line about Chicago probably refers to the conflict surrounding the 1968 Democratic National Convention.

The song is relatively short, at less than three minutes, and blends seemlessly into the next track on the album, “Blue Sunday.”
