The audience will discover wishes come true and miracles happen when the holiday classic “Miracle on 34th Street” comes to life onstage at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center in Richland Township.
The heartwarming story of a man named Kris Kringle was written by Valentine Davies for the 1940s movie of the same name.
The musical production by Troupe America Inc. features an imaginative set, stylish costumes, energetic choreography and Meredith Wilson’s score, which includes “It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas” and “May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You.”
“Miracle on 34th Street” is directed by John Tsafoyannis, with musical direction by Dennis Curley and choreography by Michael Mathew Farrell.
The story follows the adventures of an elderly gentleman who must leave his cozy existence at the Maplewood Retirement Home because he continues to claim he is Santa Claus.
Kringle has two choices – go to Mount Hope Sanitarium, which he calls “the nuthouse,” or fend for himself on the streets.
He leaves the retirement home early on Thanksgiving Day and ends up in Manhattan, arriving during the last-minute preparations for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.
To his horror, Kringle discovers the person hired to play Santa Claus is intoxicated and complains to the parade organizer, Doris Walker.
She fires Santa on the spot and offers the job to Kringle, who reluctantly agrees.
From that point on, he alters the lives of those he encounters, especially Susan, Walker’s daughter, who is too sensible to believe in Santa Claus.
During the story, the friendly old gent comes in contact with many characters, including Mr. Macy himself, who find their lives are changed forever after meeting Kris Kringle.
