Amour will be in the air during a local concert.
“The Love of Broadway” will be presented by seven vocalists from Richland Senior High School as part of the Grand Halle Performance Series at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Grand Halle of Broad Street in the Cambria City section of Johnstown.
Doors will open at 6:30, and seating is limited.
Solos, duets and ensemble selections will have a love theme just in time for Valentine’s Day.
“With the love theme, I wanted to have duet partners,” said Kim Rauch, producer of musicals at Richland and music director of the performance series.
“The songs are funny, serious, dramatic. It’s a good mix.”
The program will include selections from “Oklahoma,” “Annie Get Your Gun,” “Aida,” “South Pacific,” “Kiss Me Kate,” “Guys and Dolls” and “Finian’s Rainbow.”
The performers are Riley Alexander, Raquel Luciano, Maddie Mahood, Salena Moran, Eden Mullins, Tobi Nordlund and Evan Penrod.
Rauch will direct and accompany the singers on keyboard.
“I wanted to involve young faces in the series,” he said.
“It has been adults so far. I’d like to invite different schools and have one of our events with high school kids.”
Rauch has handpicked the singers for this performance.
All are juniors or seniors and have performed in musical theater on the Richland High School Performing Arts stage.
Several plan to pursue music careers.
“They love performing, so it made it easy to pick,” Rauch said.
“They’re ready and want to work.”
Rauch also will play the hall’s vintage Adam Stein pipe organ, offering a medley from “Phantom of the Opera” and “The Carousel Waltz” from Rogers and Hammerstein’s “Carousel.”
Local vendors will provide refreshments before the performance and during intermission.
“It’s a relaxing evening,” Rauch said.
“We want it as casual, comfortable and audience friendly as we can make it.”
The Grand Halle Performance Series takes place on the first Friday of every month through April.
Rauch said he is already planning next season’s series, which will run from October through April 2014.
