[VIDEO] Board of directors governs theater

Seventeen members of the board of directors at Arcadia Theater meet at 5:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the theater at 1418 Graham Ave., Windber.

Vice chairman Al Christ, a board member for more than 10 years, said the meetings are usually well attended.

“They (board members) want the Arcadia to be a success, to do their part to keep it up and running,” Christ said.

New members Barbara Cliff, Greg Petrilla and Mark Sotosky were elected to the board last month in addition to new chairman, Bill Bahorik.

“I’m excited that Bill is going to be chairman,” Christ said.

Christ explained that when new board members are needed, someone interested in the position can volunteer his or her services or recommendations can be made by others before the board votes.

“People will say if a position opens, I’d like to be considered,” Christ said. “Board members can recommend others through the nominating committee, which is headed by Peggy O’Malley. If there’s no objection, we vote on it.”

The board meets with nominees before considering them.

“Everyone is almost always willing to serve,” Christ said.

“We get ideas, but we need someone to call to implement them.”

As vice chairman, Christ is in charge of the board meeting if the chairman is not in attendance. He also can attend the meetings of other committees.

Executive director Frank Cunsolo said a letter has been sent to board members asking for their participation on committees.

“The board is involved in the total operation of the theater,” Cunsolo said. “It’s extremely important to participate.”

Board members can serve on  fundraising, programming, finance, nominating and house and grounds committees.

In the future, Christ sees Arcadia coming on strong in a growth pattern that will see the theater competing against other arts centers in the area.

“Our niche is specializing in oldies, doo-wop and tribute shows,” Christ said.

Cunsolo believes that 2012 will be a good year for Arcadia.

“We’ll have our struggles, but I’m an optimist,” Cunsolo said. “We’re looking at a good season.”

Should the speed limit on sections of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and related highways be raised to 70 mph from 65 mph.

Yes.
No.
I don't care because I never travel on those tolled roadways.
