Three members of the clergy at St. Vincent Archabbey will celebrate their anniversaries to the priesthood.
They are the Revs. Demetrius R. Dumm, OSB; Gilbert J. Burke, OSB; and Vernon A. Holtz, OSB.
Father Dumm will celebrate 65 years in the priesthood.
He was born in Carrolltown, son of the late Gordon and Esther (Kirsch) Dumm.
He received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from St. Vincent College in 1951; a doctorate of sacred theology in 1950 from Pontifical Institute of Sant’ Anselmo, Rome; and the honorary doctorate of sacred theology from St. Vincent Seminary.
Father Dumm entered the Benedictine Monastic Community of St. Vincent Archabbey in 1942, made his profession of vows on July 2, 1943, and solemn profession of vows on July 11, 1946. He was ordained a priest at Subiaco Abbey, Italy, on Dec. 7, 1947.
Father Burke celebrated 50 years in the priesthood.
He was born in Central City to the late Mark E. and Mary A. (Riley) Burke.
Father Burke received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from St. Vincent College in 1958; and a master of divinity degree from St. Vincent Seminary in 1962.
He entered the St. Vincent Monastic community in 1955 from Blessed Sacrament Cathedral parish in Greensburg and made his simple profession of vows on July 2, 1956, and his solemn profession of vows on July 11, 1959, at St. Vincent Archabbey Basilica, where he was ordained a priest.
He was presented with the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal, a papal honor, from the Most Rev. Lawrence E. Brandt of the Diocese of Greensburg on April 29.
Holtz marked the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.
A Hastings native, he is the son of the late Andrew E. and Marie Holtz.
Father Vernon received a bachelor’s degree in education from Lock Haven State University in 1953; a master’s degree in counseling psychology in 1967 from Catholic University of America; a doctorate in clinical psychology in 1984 from Duquesne University; and a master’s degree in theology from St. Vincent Seminary in 1973.
He made his simple profession of vows July 2, 1956, at St. Vincent Archabbey Basilica, made his solemn profession vows on July 11, 1959, and was ordained a priest June 2, 1962, at the Archabbey Basilica.
