Out & about | Irish jig

— “Rhythm of the Dance” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, 450 Schoolhouse Road, Richland Township.

The show features the National Dance Company of Ireland, which incorporates a live band, three tenors and 22 dancers.

The two-hour dance and music extravaganza is an inspiring epic, reliving the journey of the Irish culture throughout history.

Artistic creativity

Allied Artists of Johnstown’s 78th annual juried exhibition will be on display through Jan. 7 at Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Johnstown, 450 Schoolhouse Road, Richland Township.

The 56 works from 33 artists include watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings, photography, jewelry, stained glass, pottery, sculptures and mixed media.

Historic photos

“Moxham in Monochrome,” an exhibit of black-and-white photographs curated by Bill Eggert of Johnstown, will be on display from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at The Russell House, 538 Park Ave. in the Moxham section of Johnstown.

The collection of photographs detailing Moxham’s past is being presented by Eggert and the Moxham Renaissance.

“One Hundred Years of The Orchard,” a painting and photography gallery celebrating the history of the Orchard mansion, will be hosted by its owner, Dr. Larry McNiesh.

Free parking will be available in the parking lot of Moxham Lutheran Church.

Shutterbugs

“Through the Lens,” an exhibition of photographs by members of Greater Johnstown Camera Club, will be on display Monday through Oct. 29 at the Community Arts Center of Cambria County, 1217 Menoher Blvd., Westmont.

A meet-the-artists reception will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Fall celebration

The 26th annual Autumnfest will be held Saturday and Sunday and Oct. 9-10, Oct. 16-17 and Oct. 23-24 at Seven Springs Mountain Resort near Champion.

Festival hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

There is a parking fee of $3 during Autumnfest weekends.

Bard’s comedy

Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” will be presented at 2 and 8 p.m. today, 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at Mountain Playhouse, Jennerstown.

Tickets are $15 to $32 depending on day, time, seat location and discounts.

“Passion,” an exhibit of paintings and photographs by Elisabeth Minningham, will be on display in the Jenner Art Gallery through Sunday.

The gallery is open free of charge before and after playhouse performances as well as during intermissions.

Fall fete

The 46th Bedford Fall Foliage Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and Oct. 9-10 in downtown Bedford.

Admission is free.

Parking, which is $5, will be available at Bedford County Fairgrounds and Old Bedford Village, with free shuttles running nonstop to the festival.

Heritage celebration

Cresson Area Heritage Days will be held today through Sunday on Front Street in Cresson.

The festival will include hayrides, live music, craft and food vendors and children’s activities.

Nonscary display

Scarecrows in Central Park will be on display today through Oct. 31 in Central Park, downtown Johnstown.

The seasonal display is being sponsored by Discover Downtown Partnership.

Categories will include adults – ages 16 and older; youth – ages 15 and younger; business; groups such as schools and Scouts; and family.

New this year will be a section of the park dedicated for all school entries.

Great pumpkins

The Pumpkin Patch will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Oct. 22 at Vale Wood Farms, 517 Vale Wood Road, Loretto.

Admission is $2 per person, with those ages 2 and younger admitted free.

Guided weekend hayride farm tours explaining Valewood’s farming heritage are an additional $2 per person, with those ages 2 and younger admitted free.

To get to the pumpkin patch from Route 22, take the Munster exit to Route 164 and go straight through the blinking light.

Boo-tacular   

Hallowboo will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 24 at Idlewild Park, Ligonier.

Park gates open at 11:30 a.m., and Story Book Forest closes at 5.

Admission is $22.99, with guests ages 2 and younger admitted free. Coupons for $4 off are available at participating Giant Eagle locations.

Spirited stories

Ghosts of the Summit evening walking tours will be held Saturday starting at the visitors center at Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site, near Gallitzin.

Tours will begin at 7, 7:20, 7:40, 8, 8:20 and 8:40. Space for the 50-minute tour is limited to 15 people.

Tours are $2 per person, and reservations are required.

Amazing mazes

Corn mazes will lead visitors on a merry chase at several farms in the area.

A corn maze will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 1 to 8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 31 at Weakland Farms, 582 Munster Road, Portage, on Route 164.

The cost is $6 for adults and children ages 4 and older. Children ages 3 and younger will be admitted free.

At Faranda’s Farm, 1171 Penn Ave., Hollsopple, the theme is “Breast Cancer Awareness.”

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center.

The corn maze will be open from 4 p.m. to dusk Fridays, 11 a.m. to dusk Saturdays and 1 to 6 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 30 and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 31.

Flashlight Nites, which will be held Oct. 15-16, 22-23 and 29-30, include hayrides, a fire ring and barnyard activities.

The last admission is at 8:15.

Admission to the maze is $10, and children younger than 2 will be admitted free.

At Barr Ridge Farms, Route 271, north of Nicktown, a fall harvest and corn maze will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, noon to 6 p.m. Sundays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays through Oct. 31.

The last admission is at the last time noted, and visitors are advised to bring flashlights.

Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for children. Children ages 2 and younger will be admitted free.

Good fright(s)

Hauntings at Huston’s Haunted Hollow at Huston’s Hickory Hollow Campground, Route 281, Rockwood, will be held from dusk to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 30.

It is not recommended for children younger than 7 or those with medical conditions.

There also will be 30-minute Hayrides of Horror that venture into the Evil Forest.

The cost is $13 for adults and $11 for children ages 10 and younger and group discounts.

Groups must preregister.

Fright Nights at Kennywood Park are so frightening, it is recommended that those ages 13 and younger stay away.

Ghostly and ghastly spirits will take over the amusement park from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 30.

A special haunting will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 10.

Spirits have taken over the rides, too, including the Exterminator and Phantom’s Revenge.

Tickets are $25.99 at the park or $22.99 at participating Giant Eagle locations.
