Religion in brief | Retired pastor at First Lutheran

The Rev. Nelson Ilgenfritz, retired pastor of St. David’s Lutheran Church, Davidsville, and pastor of First Lutheran Church, 415 Vine St., Johnstown, will preach and administer Communion at 5:30 tonight at First Lutheran Church.

The Rev. Julie Walz, assistant pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Indiana and former pastor of Christ United Methodist Church, Moxham, will conduct the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service.

Fellowship sermon taken from Joel

The Rev. Gary Tustin will speak on “Life’s Two Appointments,” taken from Joel, during the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday services at Greater Johnstown Christian Fellowship, 3429 Elton Road, Richland Township.

Sandy Watkins will have the children’s story and Ali Zambanini will provide special music during the 10:45 service.

The Rev. Brad Westover, pastor, will host a new sermon series for July titled “ ’Til the Cows Come Home: What Are You Waiting For?” during the 9 and 10 a.m. Sunday services at BCK Ministries, 1723 Scalp Ave., Richland Township.

St. Thomas faithful to hear ‘Untold Story’

The Rev. Nila Cogan will deliver the sermon “The Untold Story of Jesus” during the 9 a.m. Sunday worship service at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 1439 Ridge Road, Hooversville.

During the service, there will be a commissioning of the youth leaving on Thursday for the National Lutheran Youth Encounter Gathering in Franklin, Tenn.

Sunday school will follow.

A Bible study of the Gospel of John will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Dunmyer Lutheran Church, 547 Schoolhouse Road, Richland Township.

A planning and decorating meeting will begin at 5 p.m. Monday for vacation Bible school, to be held July 16-20.

Ferndale UM pastor to observe Communion

The Rev. Len Findley, pastor of Ferndale United Methodist Church, 701 Vickroy Ave., Johnstown, will deliver the message “Don’t be Afraid, Just Believe,” with Scripture from Mark 5:21-43, at the 10:40 a.m. Sunday service, with the celebration of Holy Communion.

Walk/run to benefit tornado recovery

A Great Lovers 5K walk and run to benefit midwest tornado recovery will begin at 9 a.m. today, with registration beginning at 7:45, at Westmont United Methodist Church, 1428 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown.

On Sunday, Jim Bickford will be the guest speaker during the 10:45 a.m. worship service.

Sunday school will begin at 9:30.

Abundant Life to note Women’s Day

The sixth annual Women’s Day will be held during the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service at Abundant Life Ministry House of Prayer, with an inspiration by Minister Quaretta Scott, Abundant Life’s Women’s Day Choir. Evangelist Lisa Graves will be the Gospel messenger.

During the 4:30 p.m. service, there will be an inspiration from missionary Penny Morrison of Pilgrim Church of God in Christ. Elder Lois Newton, first lady of Emmaus Deliverance Ministries in Pittsburgh, will be the Gospel messenger.

The theme will be Godly Women with Great Perception.

Services will be held in the Napa Salon of the Holiday Inn, Market Street, Johnstown.
