Allegheny Synod Council has called the Rev. Lynn Miller to be assistant to the bishop.
Miller will conclude her ministry at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Mundys Corner on Feb. 16.
She will begin work in her new position on March 1.
The focus of her ministry will be in the areas of candidacy, transition work with congregations and rostered leaders, pastoral care, support of rostered and lay leadership and oversight of youth ministry.
Miller also has been active with her congregation in the community through the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and many mission trips, including Juarez, Mexico; New Orleans; Mobile, Ala.; and South Dakota.
Emergency kits to be assembled for Haitians
St. John’s Orthodox Church School in East Conemaugh will assemble emergency kits for Haitians during Lent. International Orthodox Christian Charities and Church World Service will ship the kits to Haiti before Holy Week.
Health kits consist of hand towels, washcloths, combs, metal nail file or nail clipper, bar of soap in original packaging and Band-Aids.
Baby kits include shirts, sleepers, blankets, cloth diapers and diaper pins, sweaters and washcloths.
St. Sophia Orthodox School will assemble youth and school kits.
Youth kits consist of a small stuffed bear, soft small ball, harmonica or a small musical instrument, construction paper, Slinky, yo-yo, jump rope, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, box of 24 crayons, large eraser, pencils with erasers, pencil sharpener, centimeter ruler and child’s scissors.
School kits include centimeter ruler, pencil sharpener, pencils, scissors, large eraser, box of 24 crayons, 8 1/2-by-11 notebooks and colored construction paper.
Communion services at Roxbury St. Paul’s
Roxbury St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 160 Derby St., Johnstown, will celebrate the fifth Sunday after the Epiphany with Communion services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
The annual Stewardship Awareness Campaign will begin, and include a prayer walk through the building starting at 6, followed by games and refreshments.
Series begins Sunday at Franklin Street UM
“Influence: Wired to Make a Difference,” a seven-week teaching series, will begin during the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship services at Franklin Street United Methodist Church, downtown Johnstown.
The series will look at what it takes to become the kind of influence that we are meant to be ... the kind of influence that God intends.
The focus will be the key areas that are essential for living faithfully.
The Rev. Tom Verner, a former Navy chaplain, will preach.
His sermon titles are “The Impact of Influence,” “Learn the Keys,” Envision Your Future,” Activate Your Gifts,” “Deepen Your Faith,” “Engage Your World” and “Reproduce Your Influence.”
Westmont church names interim pastor
The Rev. Jack Rupert, New Day Inc. executive director, will serve as interim pastor of Westmont Church of the Brethren, 2301 Sunshine Ave., Johnstown.
Rupert, an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren who most recently served as pastor of the Tire Hill congregation, will continue his duties with New Day Ministry.
Worship service begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
Hymn sing set for Sunday in Windber
The Christian Educational Division of the United Churches of Windber will sponsor the 27th annual hymn sing from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Assembly of God Church, Somerset and 12th streets, Windber.
Rhonda McGee will be the song leader. The Rev. David McGee is host pastor.
Offerings will benefit the projects of the United Churches.
Fellowship will follow.
