Ecumenical service set Jan. 27

JOHNSTOWN — An ecumenical worship service of praise, preaching and prayer will be held at 3 p.m. Jan. 27 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3312 William Penn Ave., Johnstown.

The Rev. Don McCoid, assistant to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s presiding bishop and executive for ecumenical and inter-religious relations, will preach.

Participating church leaders will be Bishop Gregory R. Pile of the Evangel-ical Lutheran Church in America;

Bishop Mark L. Bartchak and Bishop emeritus Joseph V. Adamek, both of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown; Bishop Gregory Tatsis of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese of the USA; and the Rev. K. Joy Kaufmann, general presbyter, The Presbytery of Huntingdon, Presbyterian Church USA.

A reception will follow the service.

This year’s theme for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which began Friday and continues through Jan. 25, is taken from Micah 6:6-8, “What does God require of us?”
