Andrew M. Golden, son of Vincent P. and Loretta J. Golden of Portage, has been promoted to captain in the Army.
He recently completed the Sapper Leadership School as an honor graduate at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.
Golden, an assistant battalion operations officer, is assigned to the 8th Engineer Battalion at Ford Hood, Killeen, Texas.
He has served in the military for more than three years, including a yearlong deployment to Ramadi, Iraq, with the 1st Armored Division.
Golden is a 2001 graduate of Portage Area High School and a 2005 graduate of California University of Pennsylvania, where he received a bachelor’s degree.
Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Brian D. Meese, so of Nancy Mulraney of St. Benedict, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.
Air Force Master Sgt. William F. Luther Jr., son of William F. and Marion L. Luther of Ebensburg, is serving in Afghanistan.
He serves with the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing at Bagram Air Field.
Luther, a flight chief for surgical services, mentors 22 surgical technicians and manages a $10 million equipment inventory.
He has served in the military for 16 years.
Luther is a 1992 graduate of Cambria Heights High School, Patton, and a 2006 graduate of Community College of the Air Force, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala, where he received an associate degree.
Adam N. Heckman, son of Dianna Pryce of Ebensburg and the late Jerry Hutzel, has completed Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island, S.C.
He is the grandson of John and Jean Heckman of Richland Township.
Heckman will be assigned to aircraft maintenance school upon completing advanced infantry training at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Navy Seaman Recruit Brandon A. Wilson, son of Leanne K. and Terry A. Wilson of Friedens, has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
He is a 2008 graduate of Shanksville-Stonycreek High School.
Air National Guard Airman Peter M. Malich Jr., son of Laura Malich of Johnstown, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.
He is a 2007 graduate of Richland Senior High School.
Air Force Airman Derek M. Adams, son of Craig Adams of Twin Rocks, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.
He is a 2006 graduate of Blacklick Valley High School, Nanty Glo.
Staff Sgt. Jeffrey A. Huber, son of Dan and Cathy Gallagher of Cresson and Bob and Ginny Huber of Fishertown, is serving in Iraq on a third tour of duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
He is a member of the Combat Convoy Transport 424 Medium Truck Detachment running convoys.
He is assigned to the 23rd Logistics Readiness Squadron at Moody Air Force Base, Ga.
Huber is a 2002 graduate of Penn Cambria High School, Cresson.

All things afield at annual sportsmen's show
Folks who crave the great outdoors will have the chance to get a jump on their adventures by attending the 27th annual Allegheny Sport, Travel and Outdoor Show at the Monroeville Convention Center. The show, which runs from Feb. 15-19, is the only western Pennsylvania show dedicated to hunting, fishing and camping. It offers hundreds of exhibitors, dozens of live demonstrations and many seminars presented by experts in their fields of interest.
