Alysia Drylie and Shannon Tantlinger, students at Laurel Valley High School, will participate in the All-Star Choir of Westmoreland County directed by Marc Tourre.
The program, called “Home for the Holidays,” will be held at 8 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Palace Theatre, Greensburg.
Somerset freshman attains Eagle Scout
Zachary Knott, son of Kevin and Tina Knott of Wilbur, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest ranking in Boy Scouting.
He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 152 of Friedens, which is sponsored by the Friedens Lutheran church.
His project was constructing a 20-foot by 24-foot picnic pavilion for a local church.
Knott began scouting in the first grade as a Cub Scout.
He also is a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow Nachamawat Lodge.
Knott earned 37 merit badges. He earned the scuba certification in open-water diving at St. Francis University. He is planning a trip to Sea Base in Florida.
Knott is a freshman at Somerset Area High School, where he plays the viola in the school orchestra and is a member of the junior high spring track team.
He attends Bethany United Methodist Church, where he is a member of the Teen Group.
Knott is the grandson of Esther Lohr of Wilbur.
Area woman is on winning trial team
Duquesne University School of Law team won the University at Buffalo’s national Buffalo-Niagara Mock Trial Tournament.
Adrienne M. Sadosky, daughter of Rose Marie Sadosky of Ebensburg, was named the top advocate in the competition.
Sadosky works in development at Duquesne University, while attending law school in the evening.
After law school, she intends to join the Navy Judge Advocate General Corps for a four-year enlistment period.
Sadosky is a 2001 graduate of Bishop Carroll High School, Ebensburg.
Summerhill man earns prestigious award
Travis Hull, son of David and Janet Hull of Summerhill, has received the Raymond W. Sarber Award for scientific achievement from the American Society for Microbiology.
Hull is a senior at Juniata College, where he is pursuing a degree in biology.
The $1,500 Sarber award recognizes students for research excellence and potential.
He has worked on a research project for three years at Juniata that isolates genes within a microbial bacterium that has pharmaceutical implications in antimicrobial drug development and the study of prokaryotic cell division.
Hull has worked as a summer research assistant for Jennifer Bennett, von Liebig Postdoctoral Fellow in biology, and has received a fellowship from the American Society of Microbiology to support his project.
He was elected president of the Health Occupations Students of America for the
2008-09 academic year; treasurer of the Juniata Chapter, American Society of Microbiologists; and president of Tri-Beta, the national biology honor society.

All things afield at annual sportsmen's show
Folks who crave the great outdoors will have the chance to get a jump on their adventures by attending the 27th annual Allegheny Sport, Travel and Outdoor Show at the Monroeville Convention Center.
