Prince Gallitzin Cross Awards bestowed upon 11

This year’s recipients of the Prince Gallitzin Cross Awards have been announced by the Most Rev. Joseph V. Adamec, bishop of the Altoona-Johnstown Catholic Diocese.

Eleven recipients will receive their crosses during the 20th annual awards ceremony, which will begin with a reception at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 today at the Cosgrave Center, Mount Aloysius College, Cresson.

The Prince Gallitzin Cross Award was created in 1990 to mark the 150th anniversary of the death of prince and priest Demetrius Augustine Gallitzin.

The award honors those persons who embody the spirit of the pioneer missionary of the Alleghenies or who have worked to preserve Gallitzin’s memory.

The recipients are:

Raymond J. Becker, a member of St. Mary parish, Nanty Glo.

Francis J. Bonfatto, a member of St. John the Evangelist parish, Bellefonte.

Rev. James H. Conrad, pastor of SS. Timothy and Mark parish, Twin Rocks.

R. Thomas and Patricia Forr, members of St. Therese of the Child Jesus parish, Altoona.

Doug LaPlante, a member of Good Shepherd parish, State College.

Sally Lima, a member of Our Lady of Victory parish, State College.

Rev. Carl A. Spishak, senior priest in residence at St. Rose of Lima parish, Altoona.

Janet L Swanhart, a member of St. John Gualbert Cathedral, Johnstown.

Sister Mary Denise Thomas, I.H.M. of St. Bernard parish, Hastings.

Anja Wagner, a member of St. Matthew parish, Tyrone.

Sister is Kimberly Richards, Pittsburgh-born and California-raised, who will star in the one-woman show, “ ’Til Death Do Us Part: Late Nite Catechism 3.” The third in a series of “Late Nite Catechism” productions opens today and continues through Sept. 19.
