The Rev. Gary N. Mosorjak has accepted the position of interim pastor at Hooversville Church of the Brethren, 195 Lohr St.
Mosorjak is an ordained minister of the Church of the Brethren, having been licensed at Tire Hill Church of the Brethren in 1993, and having been ordained at Locust Grove Church of the Brethren in Mount Airy, Md., in 1999.
He works at New Day Inc. in Johnstown.
Mosorjak and his wife, Peggy, reside in the Roxbury section of Johnstown and have six children. There are nine grandchildren.
Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by a worship service at 10:30.
Residents to serve on church boards
The Western Pennsylvania District of the Church of the Brethren – comprised of 68 churches and two fellowships with a membership of more than 9,300 – held its 143rd annual conference on Oct. 24 at the Fred M. Rogers Center on the campus of St. Vincent College, Latrobe.
Moderator William A. Waugh of Greensburg challenged the participants with the theme “Go, Run Your Race.”
Ruby F. Mader of Windber was installed as moderator of the district for the next year and the Rev. Wesley J. Berkebile of Kittanning was named moderator designate.
Carole J. Horner was approved to another three-year term as district treasurer.
Those appointed to a three-year term on the leadership team are Betsy J. Statler of Windber, chairwoman; Erin E. Marker of Berlin; Joel A. Wilcher of Oakmont; William R. Frey Sr. of Indiana; Jane Wolfhope of Johnstown; and Carol J. Walker of Somerset.
Dottie H. Grew of Meyersdale and Linda K. Stoner of Somerset were named to three-year terms on the program and arrangements committee.
Christopher A. Forry of Somerset was named to a three-year term and Gerald R. Baxter of Johnstown was named to complete an unexpired term on the camp charitable trust board.
Marie Camut of Johnstown and Donna L. Ramer of Shelocta were named to five-year terms on the board of trustees for Brethren Home Community in Windber.
Called to three-year terms on the board of directors of Camp Harmony, near Hooversville, were Erin E. Marker of Berlin, Harold “Bill” Miller of Hooversville, Jack Harrison of Johnstown and Priscilla Haines of Somerset.
Frank P. Young of Johnstown was called to serve a four-year term on the district’s gifts discernment team.
UM men to hold dinner, elect officers
Johnstown District United Methodist Men will hold its annual Thanksgiving dinner and election of officers at 6 tonight at Roxbury St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 160 Derby St., Johnstown.
Dinner is $8.
Church to consecrate Christmas project
Roxbury St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 160 Derby St, Johnstown, will consecrate Operation Christmas Child Boxes during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.
The sermon for the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services will be titled “What To Do in the Meantime.”
Church to hold Family, Friends Day
Pilgrim COGIC, 108 Poplar St., Johnstown, will hold its annual Family and Friends Day during the 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship service.
Worship service tonight at Bethany
A praise and worship service at Bethany United Methodist Church, 112 Leventry Road, Johnstown, will feature Praise Band Calvary Cross and an inspirational message by the Rev. Jeff Vanderhoff at 6 tonight.
Vanderhoff will share insights about his trip to the Holy Land, speaking about how the Bible came to life for him there and how the Bible speaks to us no matter where we are.

Ferndale UM books Simple Pleasures
Simple Pleasures will perform a concert of gospel, oldies and patriotic music at 6 p.m. Sunday in the social room of Ferndale United Methodist Church, 701 Vickroy Ave., Johnstown,
The group, featuring Jim and Jan Altman and Ralph and Terry Green of Blairsville, will play the dulcimer, guitar and bagpipes.
Refreshments will be served following the concert.

Organ recital set for Sunday in Altoona
Kevin M. Clemens will present an organ recital on the historic Steinmeyer pipe organ at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, One Cathedral Square, Altoona.
The program will feature the works of Bach, Mendelssohn, Vierne and Widor.

Abundant Life holding outreach program
Abundant Life Ministry House of Prayer will hold its third annual Thanksgiving Community Outreach from 1 to 2 p.m. Nov. 22 at 1067 Menoher Blvd.
The ministries help a friend bless a neighbor mission began in 2007 to help families enjoy their Thanksgiving Day celebration.
