Spin and win is the captivating concept that Art Works in Johnstown! has devised to attract patrons to its newest fundraiser.
The organization, located at 413 Third Ave. in the Cambria City section of Johnstown, is hosting “Fortune Smiles on You, Tombola 2012” at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The event also is a celebration of the successful events that have taken place during the past two years at Art Works.
The event features an art raffle in which each attendee’s ticket stub is spun in a large revolving drum or Tombola in Italian.
“As each ticket is drawn, the participant is given the opportunity to choose an artwork from the walls of our gallery,” said Theresa Gay Rohall, executive director.
Rohall said the art is on display and people are welcome to preview the works.
“People are welcome to come in and look at pieces that interest them in case their ticket is drawn.”
Art will be given away on a first-drawn, first-choice basis.
The cost of the event is $80 a person or $150 a couple.
Admission includes a Tuscan-style dinner, hors d’oeuvres, musical entertainment and an original artwork worth at least $100.
Proceeds go to fund Art Works and its programs.
During the past two years, Art Works has staged 17 exhibitions, musical evenings, programs and a series of small fundraising events.
Soon it will open a classroom, kitchen and a gallery gift shop on the premises.
“Each fundraiser we have conducted has focused on some form of art,” Rohall said.
Music will be provided by Ferguson and Friends, a jazz combo from Indiana.
“Music will start at 6,” she said.
“Throughout the evening, when the music stops, we will roll the drum and pick a group of names to give away the art.”
