Ring in the new year with a family-friendly, alcohol-free event – Celebration Johnstown!
The citywide New Year’s Eve celebration, which will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday in downtown Johnstown, will feature free musical entertainment and children’s activities.
“Something new this year will be strolling carolers,” said Sharyn Spinelli, a member of Discover Downtown Johnstown Partnership, which spearheads the event.
“They are members of Johnstown Symphony Chorus, and they will be walking outside and stopping on street corners to sing.”
Entertainment venues include churches and the public library, creating a safe environment for participants.
Jazz in Your Face will perform from 6 to 8 at First Presbyterian Church, 309 Lincoln St.
Max Volk will perform from 6 to 7 in the main room at Cambria County Library, 248 Main St., where Rosie & the Jammers will perform from 7:30 to 9:45.
Classic Clowns will entertain beginning at 6 in the library’s lobby, with crafts and storytelling from 6 to 9 in the community room.
Hard Rok, Coco & Joe will perform classic rock in the sanctuary at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 335 Locust St., from 6 to 8, with Bo Moore performing easy-listening music from 8:30 to 9:45.
In the church hall, singer-songwriter Jennifer Drummey will perform from 6 to 7:30, with polkas from Jerry Intihar from 8 to 9:45.
At Franklin Street United Methodist Church, Franklin and Locust streets, magician Bob Beatty will perform from 6 to 7 in the church hall, followed by the Cash Review from 7:30 to 9:45.
Whiskey River Panhandlers will perform a mix of bluegrass, folk, Appalachian, Americana and alternative country in the sanctuary from 6:30 to 8:30.
Entertainment at First Lutheran Church, 415 Vine St., will include Vivace Strings from 6 to 7; Bishop McCort Brass Choir, 7 to 8; and classic rock with Southside Strays, 8 to 9:30 in the sanctuary.
Paul Stephenson will perform from 7 to 9 in the church hall, and the Face Painting Factory will be open from 7 to 9.
All venues will offer food and refreshments for purchase.
Misty Haven Carriage Rides of Davidsville will shuttle revelers throughout the downtown beginning at 6 for $5 a person.
The celebration will end with fireworks at 9:45.
“The business community has come forward once again and so has the Community Foundation,” Spinelli said.
While admission to Celebration Johnstown! is free, there will be donation jars at each venue.
Other New Year’s Eve celebrations include:
First Night State College will be held Monday in downtown State College and on the adjacent Penn State campus.
The event features ice sculptures, art and music.
Buttons, which are $10, can be purchased online.

Highmark First Night Pittsburgh, beginning at 6 Monday, is an arts-focused and family-friendly celebration in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District.
Buttons are $8 in advance or $10 the night of the event.
Children ages 5 and younger will be admitted free.

Noon Year’s Eve at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday.
Activities will include games and live entertainment.
