Lee Whittle of Johnstown and his college friends displayed their creativity Wednesday with the showing of their movie during opening night of the Johnstown Film and Wine Festival.
Called “Hatchet Jack,” the horror movie is about four teens from Pittsburgh who become lost while camping in Washington County where, according to legend, a crazed man roams.
“It gives residents a chance to see the local talent,” Whittle said about the fest.
Movie lover Paula Majhan of Ligonier attended the screenings at the Johnstown Flood Museum along Washington Street.
“It’s nice to have something like this to showcase local talent,” she said.
Kellie Hoffman of Westmont came to support her friend Whittle and his pals. “I saw ‘Hatchet Jack’ at a film festival in West Virginia,” she said, adding that it’s a good film.
“It’s fun to see films shot around here,” said Lee Kring of the festival’s committee. “You recognize the landmarks, faces and traditions.”
Shelley Johansson, marketing manager for the Johnstown Area Heritage Association, which sponsors the festival, said advances in camera equipment have made it possible for almost anyone to bring their creativity to life.
