Local Basketball Briefs 2/13/2010


High School Boys

Forest Hills 75 Johnstown 73

Luke Gallaher made a basket with 1.8 seconds remaining in overtime as Forest Hills ended Johnstown’s 14-game winning streak.

Gallaher had 34 points, and Tanner Thomas netted 31 and grabbed 14 rebounds for the visiting Rangers. 

Cliff Eddins had 19 points, and Quayshawn Thompson and Richard Agurs each had

13 points for Johnstown. Isaiah Haselrig had 11 points.



Conemaugh Twp. 46 Windber 31

WINDBER – Grant Speigle scored 12 points and Andy Shaulis added 11 to lead Conemaugh Township.

Cameron Ursino had

11 points for Windber.



Ferndale 60

Portage 58

Trevor Mattis scored

25 points and Ryan Gaunt had 16 points and three assists as Ferndale edged visiting Portage.

Andrew Maul and Sean Cronauer each scored 16 points, and Jake Bryja had 11 and Ryan Scoran 10 for the Mustangs.



North Star 71 Conemaugh Valley 51

BOSWELL – Tony Strasiser scored 24 points, and Jake Fleegle and Cory Bloom each had 16 points in North Star’s win over visiting Conemaugh Valley.

Wade Walker added 15 for the Cougars, who took the section lead at 9-1, 11/2 games better than the 7-2 Jays. Jason Preuss had 16 points for Valley.

Dalton Uncapher scored

15 points and had six rebounds, and Jesse Uncapher pulled down seven boards.



Northern Cambia 77 Penns Manor 62

NORTHERN CAMBRIA – Joe Yuhas scored 33 points and had 17 rebounds for the Colts.

Tony Rocco and Anthony Penksa added 16 points apiece, with Penksa also pulling down 17 boards.

Travis Holby led Penns Manor with 27 points.



Penn Cambria 56 Richland 45

Josh Swope scored 20 points and Joe Dziabo added 18 as Penn Cambria notched a win at Richland.

Dereck Malzi topped the hosts with 17 points while Max Pavlovich and Jordan Rozich scored 10 each.



Westmont 52

Bishop Guilfoyle 34

A.J. Rievel scored 12 points to lead Westmont over visiting Bishop Guilfoyle.

Zach Drennen gave the Hilltoppers 11 points while Mike Young added 10.



Great Commission 88 CC Christian 65

NANTY GLO – Mike Carrieri scored 31 points as Great Commission defeated host Cambria County Christian.

Josiah Perry scored 22 points, and Josh Flaherty had 21 for Cambria County. Josh Paros added 12.



Blacklick Valley 73

J. Christian 54

NANTY GLO – Dalton Cesarz scored 23 points and Ted Worthington had 20 as Blacklick Valley beat visiting Johnstown Christian.

Brandon Garver had

10 points for the Vikings.

John Tuck had 17 points for Johnstown Christian.



High School Girls

Shade 65, Portage 32

PORTAGE – Casey Roberts had 16 points, six assists and seven steals to lead Shade.

Becca Muha finished with

13 points and eight rebounds, while Erin Spinelli added

10 points and six assists.

Tanea Lehman had 14 points and seven boards for Portage, with Kaitlyn Dividock adding

11 points.



Forest Hills 67 Johnstown 28

SIDMAN – Casey Gallaher had 20 points, four steals and three assists, and Becky Bard had 16 points, two steals and two assists as host Forest Hills beat visiting Johnstown.

Tynesha Smith led Johns-

town with 15 points.



Cambria Heights 76 Bedford 20

PATTON – Miranda Zeanchock scored 18 points and Maria Pompa had 11 as Cambria Heights beat visiting Bedford.

The Highlanders built a 28-0 first-quarter lead against the winless Bisons. Sarah Hartung had 13 points for Bedford.



Bishop McCort 65 Central Cambria 24

EBENSBURG – Jill Kegg scored a game-high 16 points while Emily Basile and Larissa Swank added 14 and 12 points, respectively, to lead Bishop McCort.



Conemaugh Valley 55 Conemaugh Twp. 40

DAVIDSVILLE – Jen Percinsky’s 13 points led Conemaugh Valley. Julie Byer’s 19 topped the hosts.

Taylor Gruss grabbed

13 rebounds and gave out six assists for the Blue Jays while teammate Beth Kendera had six blocks.

Conemaugh Township’s Katie Reckner had 11 rebounds.



Blacklick Valley 56

J. Christian 27

NANTY GLO – Danielle Lesso scored 11 points and Jami Kish added 10 to help lift Blacklick Valley.

Mallory Ott’s game-high

13 points led the Blue Jays.



Richland 57

Penn Cambria 32

CRESSON – Katie Gehlmann scored 20 points, including five 3-pointers, and Kaija Holtzman had 14 points as Richland defeated host Penn Cambria.



Bishop Guilfoyle 72 Westmont 44

ALTOONA – Haylee Adams scored 23 points as Bishop Guilfoyle remained unbeaten (17-0) with a victory over visiting Westmont Hilltop.

Kayleigh Floyd added

15 points for the Marauders, who also got 12 points from Alli Williams.

The Hilltoppers (11-8) were led by Erin Rodgers with

21 points and Alyssa Yewcic with 15.



North Star 59 Ferndale 43

BOSWELL – Emily Lohr had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead North Star.

Chelsea Danel and Breanne Putman had 11 points each for the Cougars while Danel had eight assists and Karen Schmidt grabbed nine rebounds.

Gabby Kull’s 13 points led the visitors.
