Bishop McCort’s girls were looking for a little payback for an earlier loss that they had suffered at Laurel Highlands Section 2 rival Richland.
It was mission accomplished for the Crimson Crushers on Friday night as McCort held off the Rams for a physical 47-43 victory.
“We played Richland tough at their place and offensively, we’ve been struggling,” McCort coach John Hahn said. “Defensively, we’re fine. I told them that they had to start picking it up on offense.
“They are just always so tight. We come out like a rubber band and we played that last quarter not to lose. I told them to play to win. I didn’t want to hold the ball, I wanted to attack and just relax and enjoy. The sun is still coming up. They know that we’re the 11th seed and we can make a jump in the District 6 Class AA standings and we are using that as our motivation. They just need to buy into what we’re selling them.”
Senior guard Jill Kegg finished with a game-high 22 points, including four 3-pointers, two in the decisive final frame, which featured four ties and two lead changes. Teammate Larissa Swank added 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Crimson Crushers (10-5, 6-2 LHAC Section 2).
