LEWISBURG — Local swimmers struggled during the first day of the PIAA Class AA Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday at Bucknell’s Kinney Natatorium.
Westmont Hilltop’s Ray Ward was the highest local finisher, as he placed 15th in the preliminary round with a time of 1:48.01 in the 200-yard freestyle. His time dropped to 1:48.47 in the consolation finals, as he finished 16th.
Ryan Koul, Ward’s teammate, finished 31st in the in the 50-yard freestyle. with a time of 23.10.
The Hilltoppers’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Koul, Paul Nathaniel, Bob Nickels and Ward was 24th in
1:36.40.
Westmont Hilltop’s girls 200 medley relay team placed 24th with a time of 2:00.70 while the 200 freestyle relay team was 22nd in 1:46.25.
Westmont’s Nikki Miller finished 29th with a time of 2:01.86 in the 200 freestyle, two spots ahead of Conemaugh Township’s Kelci Rullo.
The Hilltoppers’ Naofa Noll was 32nd in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:24.72 and 32nd in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:05.80.
Ligonier Valley’s Paige Pecora was 30th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26:23, one spot ahead of Westmont’s Nikki Kovach.
The competition continues today in Lewisburg.
